In facing this very challenging subject, we took a Disneyesque approach and designed it to appeal to the child in all of us.  In the late forties, Walt Disney approached some of the most conservative corporations in America and using his mouse and other cartoon characters talked about a potential new amusement park.  At that time, amusement parks meant roller-coasters and carnies.  But each of the corporations invested millions of dollars and created Disneyland.  You have probably visited Disneyland, as one of millions.

There really is nothing childlike in this subject matter, as we are talking about true quality of life and about our ability to honor ourselves in the medical world.  We are talking about life and death issues, which is not humorous, and certainly not frivolous.  But, for most of us, it is much easier to look at cartoon figures than the mere reading of medical documents.

We are at the beginning of a medical evolution where patients will become much more active in their prognosis.  A greater feeling of humanness between patients and care providers will evolve with communication and competence.  We might learn to honor ourselves and have a higher quality of life experience.

Wouldn't it be nice if we were truly seen and heard by the world of medicine?
